Identification of same and different
Belief in Themselves
Paz points out that fewer bugs are easier and more bugs are harder when
presenting the preschooler with the game choices. The ability to set
realistic goals for oneself can be practiced when making choices, and a
positive gaming outcome can help to deliver confidence. Paz also
encourages a child to feel proud of trying hard.
Problem-Solving
Paz helps the preschooler to understand the multiple steps involved in a
game, including identifying the problem, making a plan, what to do if
that doesn't work, and how to tell if you're succeeding.
Persistence
Paz encourages and facilitates the block-building experience with
suggestions and feedback if the child's attempts fail. The ability to
persevere when things don't go right the first time is a critical skill
in learning. A child can learn that mistakes are a part of learning --
one can learn what doesn't work or what not to do through mistakes. In
Peek-A-Bug, every mistake is an opportunity to use what you learn from
that mistake to try again, and the way to play is to keep trying.
