Name: Aimee
Age: 15
Home: Belfast
Aimee’s been on expeditions before as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award but only in the UK. She’s hoping the experience of those 15 mile hikes will help her out in Namibia! Aimee absolutely loves working with animals but used to be terrified of birds. She managed to overcome her fear by volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary and is now happy to bandage the wing of a seagull or bathe a swan.

Age: 14
Lives: Devon
Chris likes to surf to keep fit. He also likes to play the bass guitar and sing. He says that not many humans enjoy his singing but the rhinos might! He says he got involved with Serious Desert because, “This would be a chance to make a difference and to leave my everyday life.”

Name David
Age: 15
Lives: Edinburgh
David loves the outdoors and regularly goes off trekking in the Scottish mountains. He says that his camping trips have got him used to living without any of the day to day luxuries he has at home. He’s also a member of the Cadets and wants to be an Army Officer when he leaves school. He says that “My stamina and discipline will give me an upper hand in the testing conditions of Namibia.”

Name: Ellie
Age: 13
Lives: London
Ellie’s really sporty - she plays netball, football, does gymnastics and swimming and is an orange belt in karate. Ellie says she’s very strong willed and determined and will never give up on something once she’s started on it. She says “I can work well in a team and support others as a friend, team member or a shoulder to cry on.”

Name: Holly
Age: 13
Lives: Bristol
Holly’s had lots of pets - two hamsters, three guinea pigs, two rabbits, a cat, loads of goldfish and a dog - but she finds it a lot more exciting to find her pets. So far she’s found two frogs, four grasshoppers, tadpoles, spiders, lots of snails and a grass snake! Holly loves playing football and thinks the expedition in Namibia will be the best experience of her life.

Name: Martin
Age: 14
Lives: London
Martin is a keen wildlife photographer but likes taking photos of planes too! He likes going camping to a farm in Wales where he does photography and also gets to enjoy another of his hobbies - riding moto-bikes. Martin says he’s got a great sense of humour and is always telling jokes and making people laugh! Hopefully he’ll be able to do this on expedition!

Age: 14
Lives: Sunderland
Perry’s big hobby is badminton. He’s a national badminton champion! He also owns his own allotment which he built from scratch. He grows vegetables there and his hens, ducks and geese all live there. He says he’s not frightened of hard work and really likes a challenge.

Name: Promise

Age: 13
Lives: London
Promise likes dancing, singing and performing in front of live audiences, and says that this will help her in Namibia and that “Having a camera in my face at all times will not scare me!”. Promise says she’s a good team member and not afraid to take responsibility and that although she hasn’t travelled much before she can’t wait to get to Namibia.
