Papier-maché Project

We made a papier-maché dummy, but you can create whatever you like by following these steps.

Materials:
Newspaper or drop cloth
Rolls of plaster casting. Check your local craft, sculpture or art supply store.
The object you want to papier-maché
A bucket of water
Scissors
A sponge
Clothes you don't mind getting messy

Step by Step

Step 1
Discuss with your parents where you can work on your project. Once you've agreed on the location, put down newspaper or a drop cloth to catch the drips.

After you have prepared your work area, cut a number of arm-length strips of the casting bandages.

Step 2
Dip the strip in the bucket of water, keeping it flat so it doesn't bunch up.

Step 3
Lay the strips on your object until it is completely covered. It's a good idea to do a couple of layers.

Step 4
Cut smaller strips to fill in any gaps. It helps to take a wet sponge to smooth out any rough spots.

Step 5
Let dry and enjoy. You can also paint your object when it's dry if you like.
