Make Your Very Own Mardi Gras Mask

Materials:

Undecorated paper or plastic masks (available at party supply or craft stores); or you can take an old mask and paint it white, or even make a papier-maché mask if you know how
Markers, paint, beads, fringe, glitter, feathers, sequins ... anything goes on these masks!
Glue or glue gun (ask your parent or guardian's permission and help if you use a glue gun)
Old newspapers

Step by Step

Step 1
Spread out old newspapers or some other protective covering over the table where you'll be working.

Step 2
Think about what design you want to make. You could start by thinking of your favorite colors, or choose an animal/character from a story or fairy tale. Use your imagination!

Step 3
Begin decorating. If you are going to paint or color with markers, you should do that first so that you have a smooth surface to embellish. If you paint, allow that to dry before you add glue to it. Then add the small objects like beads, feathers or sequins. If you want to use a glue gun, remember that it gets hot and can be messy, so ask for permission first.

Step 4
To hang your decorated mask on the wall, ask a parent or guardian to add fishing wire or elastic across the back if it's not already attached to the mask.
