Time Capsule

Materials:

Any kind of container, like a plastic or wood box - on the show we used a new (clean) garbage can
Anything to decorate your capsule (like contact paper, stickers, paints)
Marker
Duct tape
Objects you want to put in the capsule - we recommend putting in things you feel like you've outgrown, e.g., things you love but don't play with anymore (old trophies, toys, books), photographs of your friends or family, maybe a magazine or newspaper from today Step by Step

Step 1

Decide what objects you want to put in your box so you can determine how big the box needs to be. If you don't want to take up a lot of space think of small things. If you don't have anything you want to put away for a long time then write yourself a long letter about who you are, your parents, brothers and sisters, friends, trends you like and don't like, music, etc. You could also write where you think you'll be when the capsule is opened (if you'll be a mom or dad, if you'll be working, where you'll be living, etc.).
  Step 1
Step 2

Begin to decorate. You can use contact paper or paints. Keep in mind that paints won't work well on a plastic box, so go with the contact paper if using one.
  Step 2
Step 3

Once the box is finished or dry, start placing your objects in the box. If you want, write on an index card a little bit of information about each object and its significance to place in the box.
  Step 3
Step 4

Now that everything is packed put a piece of duct tape across the lid so it can't be opened. With a permanent marker write the date when the capsule can be opened on the duct tape. Some people bury time capsules in a special place, but as long as you don't open it, then it should be all right to leave above ground.
  Step 4
