Trendy Topiary

Materials:

Flowerpot
Hot glue gun and glue sticks - get your parent or guardian's permission and help with these!
Styrofoam ball(s)
A stick
Clay
Items to decorate your topiary: dried or fake flowers, dried or fake fruits, ribbons, jewels, etc.
Florist's moss

** Note: We have instructions below for a full do-it-yourself project. However, you can buy topiary cone-shaped forms or ball forms that are already in pots. It just depends on whether you want to build it and decorate it, or if you just want to decorate it. **

Step by Step

Step 1

Push the stick halfway into the top styrofoam ball, pull the twig out again, and put some glue into the hole. Next, put the stick back into the hole you've created so it's glued in place.
  Step 1
Step 2

Put a ball of clay into the bottom of the flowerpot and squish it down until you have a nice chunk of packed clay that can hold the stick. Repeat step No. 1: push the stick down into the clay and pull it out again. Fill the hole with glue and again place the stick in the clay to dry.
  Step 2
Step 3

Glue the florist's moss over the exposed clay.
  Step 3
Step 4

Glue moss on the Styrofoam ball and let dry.
  Step 4
Step 5

Begin to decorate the ball with anything you like using your glue gun. On this episode we covered the topiary with traditional items like dried fruit and flowers. Some other ideas we have are to cover it with with beautiful jewels, origami shapes, yarn or anything you like!
  Step 5
Step 6

Once it's dry, display and enjoy.
