Record Bowls

Watch the craft video! Click here.

You must have your parent's permission to do this craft. Never turn on the oven or stove without your parent's permission. Set the timer so you don't forget about the records in the oven ... you don't want to clean this up if you forget and leave the records in for too long.

Materials:

Oven-safe bowl
Old record
Oven mitts
Oven timer
Oven

Step by Step

Step 1

Ask a parent to preheat the oven to about 200-250 degrees.
Choose the bowl you are going to use. Flip the bowl so it is bottom up. Lay the record on the bowl. When the record heats up, it will begin to mold to the shape of the bowl.
  Step 1
Step 2

Set your timer for 5 minutes and place the bowls with the records in the oven.
  Step 2
Step 3

When the timer rings, check on the record. If it looks like it's melted, turn off the oven. Ask a parent to put on the oven mitts and remove the bowls. If it's not yet to your liking, set the timer for another 3 minutes. Do not keep the record in the oven for more than 10 minutes.
Remember to turn off the oven when you are done.
  Step 3
Step 4

If you have two of the same-shaped bowls, you can press the bowl down on top of the other to bring a better shape to the record.
Let your new record bowl cool for about 10 minutes.
  Step 4
Step 5

Use your new record bowls for anything! Just remember they can't hold water.
