Surprise Soap

Watch the craft video! Click here.

Make soap with a surprise inside!
For the Holidays
Make Surprise Soaps for friends and family. You can create individual soaps for your family. Check your local craft store to see what your options are. Does your sister like kittens? Does your dad like frogs? Maybe your grandparents would like some holiday themed soap. Get creative and then get crafty!

Materials:

Soapmaking kit (Check your local craft store. We used a kit that had opaque soap and circular molds.)
plastic bugs or other plastic animals or objects
microwave
knife
microwavable cup

You will be using hot materials, so you must ask your parents for help doing this craft.

Also, you will be using a soapmaking kit; follow the directions on the back of the kit. Our directions are just the steps of the process.

Step by Step

  Materials
Step 1

After you read the instructions on the kit, cut the soap brick into the sizes they suggest and place into your microwavable cup. Take out your soap molds and place your plastic bugs topside down into the molds (so you are looking at the underside of the bug). Place your cup in the microwave for the amount of time noted in the kit's instructions.
  Step 1
Step 2

With your parent's help remove the cup from the microwave and pour the liquid into the molds. You will have to do this before the soap solidifies.
  Step 2
Step 3

Set the molds aside (your kit instructions may suggest the refrigerator) for about 20 to 30 minutes. Once they are cooled, remove the soap from the soap molds.
  Step 3
Step 4

Repeat if you want to make more bars of soap.
  Step 4
Step 5

Now you have some very cool soap. Put it in the bathroom and surprise your guests, or give it to someone as a gift.
  Step 5
