Poetry Journal

Materials
Pieces of fabric or felt
Construction paper (optional)
Pencil
Scissors
Glue
8.5 x 11 cardboard or heavy card stock
One-hole or three-hole punch
Ruler
Writing pad or several sheets of paper

Step by Step

Step 1
Using a ruler, measure and cut a piece of cardboard the same size as your writing pad or paper. This will become the poetry journal cover. (Note: If you use a writing pad that has cardboard on the back, this will be the back of your journal. If not, cut a second piece of cardboard to use as the back cover of your poetry journal.)
  Step 1
Step 2
Punch two evenly spaced holes into one edge of the cardboard. Using the holes in the cover as a guide, punch holes into your writing paper, a few sheets at a time. Put your cardboard cover on top of the paper, and your bottom cover (if necessary) beneath the paper, making sure all holes match on the same side.
  Step 2
Step 3
Cut two strips of fabric at least 6 inches long and ¼ - ½ inch wide. Thread the fabric strip through one of the journal cover holes, the paper and the back cover. Tie into a knot. Either make a bow or cut off the excess fabric. Repeat with the other fabric strip and holes. Your paper and covers are now bound into a poetry journal!
  Step 3
Step 4
Get creative! Cut out pieces of different kinds of fabric and/or construction paper and glue them to the cardboard to make fun designs that will inspire the poet within!
  Step 4
